Since when is the Polytechnikum a university? Is the beamer an an invention from Zurich? The book on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of ETH Zurich explores the history of the first national university on five thematic tours. The socio-political career of the Polytechnikum is examined as well as the relationship between ETH Zurich and the private sector. Research practices and turning points are examined. The history of the challenges of university administration, and, last but not least, the demanding everyday life of students are topics of discussion. The collection of more than 60 concise short stories was created as part of the web exhibition www.ethistory.ethz.ch of the Institute of History of the ETH Zurich and is recommended as an informative and and entertaining sightseeing through 150 years of ETH.
