Communication networks and data streams, filters and search engines, transfer and implementation processes, managed nature and planned operations: The history of technology offers a wide range of historical objects of investigation. The goal is to understand how technological developments are appraised, and by whom, and the societal shifts that accompany them. The research at the Chair for History of Technology is problem oriented, topical and correspondingly diverse.

With the retirement of Prof. David Gugerli in the fall of 2026, the website of the Chair of the History of Technology was archived for the last time. In this archived version, no distinction is made between ongoing and completed projects, nor between current and former staff members. Older archived versions can be found in the ETH Zurich University Archives.
